I go to a lot of opera in Baltimore, but I have not been to any events at the theaters listed here, except for one guitar recital at the BMA Theater. I don't think that one would be suitable for a large opera production. You might find comments about its acoustics elsewhere on the web. Hippodrome would be low on my list after reading that its acoustics are not great for opera, and a company that plans to perform there soon reportedly will use microphones to compensate. (Any news about the old cinema in north Baltimore that was being considered for refurbishment for the performing arts?)

This is truly awesome, for so many reasons. I can’t imagine what a great undertaking this must be. Also, your May 15 Steering Committee Notes show a working phone number that appears to be incomplete (only 9 digits). BUT, the rest of the site is comprehensively thought-out and adeptly articulated. I appreciate your expertise, energy and efforts for opera in the Baltimore area. On another related note, an experienced New York costume designer of opera, other theater and film originally from Baltimore, has a dream to also design opera in her hometown. Her site, www.sarahcubbage.com, may be of interest an use to you. Congratulations and Best Wishes!

This sounds truly awesome, for so many reasons! I can't imagine how great an undertaking it must be. The site is quite impressive. Also, in the May 15 Steering Committee Meeting notes, a working phone number appears to be incomplete with only 9 digits. BUT, everything else is comprehensively thought-out and adeptly articulated. Thank you for your expertise, energy and efforts. I hope you, Opera Baltimore, yield great success. On another note, an experienced New York costume designer of opera, theater and film (originally from Baltimore) has a dream to also design opera in her hometown.
Would vote absolutely for Elmer Gantry. Saw it performed last year at Peak Performances in Montclair, New Jersey. It is spectactular, and I would encourage my many friends in the Baltimore/D.C. area to go and see it!

I just found the site. This is too exciting, and I wish you all the best! My choices for American opera: I've read some good things about Bernard Hermann's "Wuthering Heights" and would be keen to see it performed. I still have not heard Copland's "The Tender Land" either.
