ABOUT US
Opera Baltimore is a bold, voice-driven opera company rooted in the heart of Baltimore, MD. We present thrilling productions, from full-scale stagings with orchestra to intimate concert operas at the The Engineers Club in the historic Garrett-Jacobs Mansion. Our artists light up the stage and the city.
Founded in 2009 as Baltimore Concert Opera and renamed Opera Baltimore in 2022, we’ve grown into a civic force for artistic excellence, access, and community connection. We reach thousands each year through fully staged and concert opera performances, our beloved Thirsty Thursdays at the Opera highlights concerts, public events, and educational programs designed for all ages and levels of experience. From free performances in our city’s green spaces during Fall for Opera to civic practice programs like Opera on the Avenue and historic collaborations across Baltimore’s Black and Jewish communities, our work lives at the intersection of music, history, and home.
Opera Baltimore is committed to the power of the human voice and the people who carry it. We believe the first time you walk into the opera house should matter as much as your hundredth. That’s why we center artists, honor audiences, and contribute to the kind of cultural legacy Baltimore deserves.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Opera Baltimore is committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion across all of the communities we serve, including artists, audiences, donors, staff, board members, key stakeholders and community members near and far. We believe that our focus on DEI creates both a healthy and safe working environment for our staff and artists, as well as offering a consistently welcoming place for all of our constituents. Dedicated to building a culturally diverse, wider audience in our vibrant, richly varied community of Baltimore, we actively seek and cultivate new relationships to further connect us to our city and to help us be better stewards of the gifts we have to share. Every decision Opera Baltimore leadership makes, whether artistic, financial or operational, is rooted in our values: Inclusivity, Integrity, Innovation, Excellence, and Responsibility; each of which is directly rooted in our commitment to DEI.
