Season and Audition Information:
We are hearing auditions for covers, comprimari and chorus for our concert operas in 2027: Macbeth (Feb/March 2027) and Dido and Aeneas (April 2027), as well as outreach programs (ongoing). The rehearsal period for concert operas is typically 2 weeks. Chorus rehearsals are in the evenings, principal/cover rehearsals are during the day.
Local auditions:
This round of auditions is intended primarily for local professional artists given the quick turnaround. Auditions will be held on Thursday, September 10th, 11am-3pm at our home venue of the Engineers Club in Baltimore. Pianist Laurie Rogers will be on site and available to play your audition for $30, or you are welcomed to bring your own pianist. There is no application fee. Limited spots available.
Please note:
Covers sing in the chorus
Housing and travel are not offered for small roles (AGMA designation of S, B or CB) or covers/chorus
All positions are paid [chorus positions begin at $400, comprimari begin at $650, covers: $1000 plus performance fee if you go on, principal offers will be discussed individually]
Covers receive a coaching with music staff, and get a full cover run and ticketed cover performance
We do not hear a singer more than once every two years, due to limited audition space
If you have auditioned for us within the past two years, you are welcomed to submit your interest with new audio/video links
We are always hearing for future principals in addition to current needs
Please do not call or email. We will confirm whether we are able to hear you, and your scheduled audition time, by Tuesday, September 8th.
Opera Baltimore holds auditions periodically for principal, comprimario, chorus, and cover roles, often in collaboration with our artistic partner, OperaDelaware. Auditions are scheduled on an invitation-only basis, and due to our limited staff capacity we are not able to accept or review unsolicited materials. Managed and unmanaged singers interested in working with Opera Baltimore are encouraged to watch our website and social media channels for official audition announcements.
About working with Opera Baltimore:
OB presents an array of opera performances each season including fully staged productions, operas in concert and highlight concerts, as well as education and outreach events. Full productions are presented at the beautifully appointed Stephens Hall at Towson University. Concert operas and highlights concerts are presented with piano accompaniment in our jewel-box theater inside the gilded Garrett-Jacobs Mansion which seats 200 guests. We regularly sell out our performances to enthusiastic, vibrant audiences. Our audiences are tremendously appreciative and enjoy seeing the singers up close.
The complete time commitment for a full production is generally 4 weeks, and for a concert opera 12-14 days.
All performers are paid. Opera Baltimore is a non-AGMA company.
