Stage Door Series
Where Baltimore’s next generation of opera-makers meets the real backstage.
You’ve seen the curtain rise. Now step behind it.
The Stage Door Series is Opera Baltimore’s program for young artists and future arts leaders aged 16–28 — and for any audience member, of any age, who’s hungry to know how opera really gets made. You want more than applause from the opera world — you want a role in making it happen. Whether you sing, play, design, direct, manage, or dream of running the show, this is your way in.
We’re especially calling in folks from communities who have been historically underrepresented in the opera workforce. If you’ve got the passion, we’ve got the access.
What You’ll Experience
The Stage Door Series opens the working side of opera to you through unscripted, real-deal exchanges with the people who make it happen:
In-room access to rehearsals with our artists and creative teams, followed by candid conversations about the craft and the hustle.
Q&As with industry leaders about career paths, audition strategies, and how to survive — and thrive — in this field.
Masterclasses and open coachings with artists at the top of their game.
Roundtable talks on the nuts and bolts: stage design, lighting, makeup, marketing, and more.
Volunteer opportunities in front-of-house and production support to get your hands in the work.
Meet Your 2025–26 Ambassador
This season, acclaimed soprano and Imasogie Executive Apprentice Mary Elizabeth Williams is our Stage Door host, guide, and artistic partner. She’ll share her expertise through:
A singer-focused audition prep Q&A.
Small-group sessions on building a career.
Invitations to select rehearsals.
A pre- or post-show reception.
A public interview with our President & Executive Director, Julia Cooke.
Why It Matters
Opera Baltimore has always believed in the power of the voice both onstage and off. The Stage Door Series makes sure the next generation of voices shaping this art form reflects the full spectrum of Baltimore’s talent.
